Moab City Planning Commission Meeting Report 2020-09-24

The agenda included a single discussion item and no action items. This was fortunate since there was not a quorum of the commission present.

Continued discussion on the development standards for new overnight accommodations in the Resort Commercial Zone – site and architectural review standards. The PC received a 5 page description of potential standards. Additionally, standards from Carbondale, CO; Park City, UT;  Sedona, AZ; and Springdale, UT were mentioned. The discussion was wide ranging and included visual standards for facades, building heights, parking, pedestrian and bicycle access, landscaping, and other issues. The potential ordinance will be discussed in probably two more PC meetings before a final version will be written and presented. Many of the currently existing lodging buildings were included in the meeting packet but there was not much discussion of these. The difference between the way the city and county are handling the permitting of overnight accommodations was briefly discussed.

The noise pollution problem was raised and discussed. A presentation to the PC from the code compliance officer may be arranged to explain the way noise ordinances are enforced. The City Council has asked the city attorney to look into the legality of controlling ATVs on city streets.

Future agenda items: There may be a few minor subdivisions presented at the next meeting. Approval for the new EMS building at 100 N 500 E (located at the site of the old senior center and near the Rockridge Senior Apartments) may be presented at the next meeting.  A few new building applications have been received recently so activity is beginning to increase.
